REFLECTION TASK 3

If I was a jury member of the committee choosing the person of the year,Müge Anlı would be my candidate. She is an announcer in a television program named 'Müge Anlı ile Tatlı Sert'. She helps people in many ways. For example,she reveals some murders that have not been solved for a long time by talking to some people involved in events in the program that Prof. Dr. Arif Verimli and Rahmi Özkan,who is a lawyer,participate in and she prevents murderers from doing harm to other people. By doing so,perhaps she enables people who have lost their beloved ones to feel better even if she doesn't completely relieve their pain. Moreover,she can find some people,especially young people who have been lost or who have eloped thanks to some sensitive people who get through to the live performance. She also enables some adopted children who don't know their biological mother or father to come together with their family. She helps people with walking disability by sending wheelchairs to them. In addition,she sends stationery equipment and computers to students who need. In summary, Müge Anlı makes other people happy thanks to her program and I think making other people happy is the greatest happiness. People who watch this program learn from others' mistakes. For instance, that some men who use violence to their wifes are punished thanks to this program serves as a warning to other men who do so. For all the reasons mentioned above,I consider this program significant and I think Müge Anlı deserves to be the person of the year.

REFLECTION TASK 2B

FALCO-JEANNY

'Jeanny' is a song recorded by Johan(Hans) Hölzel,who is also known as 'Falco'. Because lyrics of this song based on a true story caused 41 people to commit suicide,this song was forbidden by Pope John Paul II. I was impressed a lot with the story of this song. As for this story,a mafia member falls in love with a woman named Jeanny. She reciprocates his feelings. They love each other madly. However,when they decide to marry,she learns that he is a mafia member. Therefore,she wants him to give up gangsterism and he accepts this. Although he doesn't want to continue gangsterism,other mafia members put pressure on him and they want him to go back. He prefers his love,so these mafia members kill Jeanny to avenge and lay it off on him. He is sentenced to life imprisonment. However,what is important for him is only Jeanny's death. One day he writes the lyrics of this song in imprisonment and then he commits suicide.


I like this song because it is touching and it gives people some messages about life. This song shows me that mistakes which we made in the past can come along with us until our death. These mistakes can destroy some nice emotions we experience and harm not only to us but also to people around us. Choices we make and decisions we take have a long lasting impact on our life. Our lives are a series of choices and decisions. Although this song caused some people to commit suicide,I think it can be guiding to learn from people's mistakes.

REFLECTION TASK 2A

  I want to mention social networking sites. I have chosen this topic because there is a trend for social networking sites among especially the young and social sites have been an inseparable part of our lives. Most people spend a lof of time on social networking sites. For example,Americans aged 18-64 who use social networks spend an average of 3.2 hours per day according to a recent research conducted by Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange (OTX)

  Social networking is a way for one person to meet up with other people on the Internet. Today most people get to know each other on social media and they get married. People can also make new friends and find their old friends thanks to social networking. 

  However I think social networking sites harm our values. Today we can contact with one another whenever we want. As a result of this,we can not miss our beloved ones and we can not wonder what our beloved ones do because we can learn everything about them thanks to these sites. Moreover, I think social networking sites increase risk of cheating,break-up and divorce because people tend to jealously monitor their partners' activities on social networking sites.

To get rid of these negative effects of the social sites,when we miss our beloved ones,we can spend our time coming together with them rather than having a conversation on the social sites. We do not always express our feelings clearly on the Internet. Face-to-face communication helps us to understand other people better and to build better relationship with them.
